Technology of professional development and career planning as a basis for the formation of a specialist

The article deals with the concept of professional orientation as a system of interaction between the individual and society, which results in the readiness of the individual for professional self-determination, defined as “the ability to recognize individual professional characteristics and make a decision”. It is noted that the peculiarity of this approach is the consideration of professional self-determination as a process of forming an individual’s attitude to himself/herself as a subject of professional activity. The concept of professional self-determination is considered as not a fragmentary act of life self-determination, but a holistic system that begins with the choice of profession and continues throughout life and takes place during a specially organized professional orientation. The main components of vocational guidance are clarified, such as: vocational information and vocational education; vocational counseling; vocational recruitment; vocational selection; vocational adaptation. In particular, it is determined that professional information is the familiarization of various groups of the population with modern types of production, the state of the labor market, the needs of the economy for qualified personnel, the content and prospects for the development of the market of professions/specialties, forms and conditions of their mastering, requirements imposed by professions/specialties on a person, opportunities for professional growth and self-improvement in the process of labor activity. It has been established that assisting a person in professional self-determination in order to make an informed decision about choosing a professional path, taking into account his or her psychological characteristics and capabilities, as well as the needs of society, should be interpreted as professional counseling. The concept of professional selection is generalized, which is important to define as the process of providing a person with recommendations on possible areas of professional activity that best meet his/her psychological, psychophysiological, physiological characteristics, as well as professional selection as determining the degree of professional suitability of a person for a particular profession/specialty (workplace, position) in accordance with the requirements.
